I told you earlier that I’m absorbing almost anything nailpolish related on the internet nowadays, and I was pretty fascinated when I discovered the Dr. Frankenpolish blog by Amanda Frankenpolish. I had no idea that it was possible to create your own shades of nailpolish by mixing different polishes or minerals. My mind was blown!
Basically, frankening a polish means mixing one or more colors of nailpolish to achieve a new color or other effects. You could put glitter, holo or flakes in your franken to give it another dimention. It’s not recommended to mix different brands of polish because the chemicals can react in bizarre ways, but according to Amanda nothing weird has ever happened to her frankens. Another form of frankening is putting color minerals in the polish, you can even use eye shadow! When you’ve mixed your polishes and/or minerals, add some balls and shake like crazy! The colors have to mix well. If the polish is a bit on the thick side, add some nailpolish thinner (NOT polish remover or acetone).
Naturally, I just had to try this at home. I had an old bottle of L’Oreal polish, a beige metallic, and I wanted to jazz it up. I put in a glob (I wasn’t exactly measuring this scientifically) of a golden brown Bourjois polish. Quite a success! It turned out a tasty light brown chocolate-y color, really creamy and nice.
Later, I wanted to kick it up a notch, so I added more of the dark brown polish, and it turned out even more like chocolate! I had to come up with a name, and what else could it be than “Melted Chocolate”. (Ok, I never said I had a vivid imagination.)
For my third experiment, I mangled one of my H&M eye shadows. I carved off some light pink and grey eye shadow and put it in a bottle of Depend Top Coat. Holy smokes, this color is great! I fell in love with it instantly! So pretty and discrete, but still classy. I’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves.
I can’t wait to turn my old eye shadows into pretty pretty polishes!

How cool is that! And using the Depend top coat was genius, it must be the perfect size for a little frankening.
I know! And the top coat is thin enough to mix well with the eye shadow pigments, even without ballz.
I’m going to miss Depend when I’m back in Qatar.
That melted chocolate looks delicious! You made a very pretty polish. The other made with the eye shadow came out very nice also. I have to try this too.
Thank you!
