The Power Of Polish – Guest post by Jackie Clark from the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance
Last week I got an email from Jackie at the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance asking if she could do a guest post on my blog. Here’s a little snippet of what she said (because she says it much better than me):
I have always had a passion for fashion-from shoes to makeup, nail polish to handbags, and everything in between! Coupled with that is belief that all women need to feel beautiful, no matter what circumstances they may be facing. Women are powerful beings and WE need to realize it! Sadly, many women are hearing those devastating words ‘you have cancer.’ Despite a cancer diagnosis, women can still feel beautiful in their own skin. Fashion is a wonderful way to feel strong and confident. I would like to share with your audience the reality of cancer and how women can say ‘YES I have cancer’, but I am no less beautiful than I was before my diagnosis.
I thougt this sounded interesting, so without further ado, here’s Jackie’s guest post!
Paint Away Your Fears with Nail Polish
By: Jackie Clark
It can be difficult even on a good day to feel and look your best, and when you’re battling a form of cancer, it may be all you can do just to get out of bed. Women with cancer, such as mesothelioma cancer, may have a hard time feeling beautiful. Cancer treatments can often leave a woman feeling weak and exhausted, too tired to care about her looks. However, some experts believe that when a woman feels beautiful, her outlook is more positive and she feels more energetic. Here are some easy ways to improve the way you feel by improving the way you look in spite of your prognosis.
The Different Facets of Beauty
Experts believe that beauty is more than just how you look. It’s a bit more complicated than that. Beauty may actually depend on three different qualities: how you look genetically, how you put yourself together, and how you feel about yourself. You can’t control the first aspect, but you can control the second two. Improving your care for your look frequently makes you feel more beautiful. It’s an easy way to celebrate your body even in the midst of suffering.
Power of Polish
Nail polish can be a powerful and simple way to improve your outlook on life. Nail polish can add a touch of color or sparkle to your ensemble without requiring you to purchase entire new outfits. Nail polish also comes in just about every color you can imagine, so you can take your pick and choose your favorite colors, or go for options that are trendy for the season. If you really want to spruce up your look, you can even get patterns applied to your nails.
Nail polish itself isn’t the only way to feel better. Many women report feeling better and more beautiful after receiving a manicure and pedicure. Getting a manicure with a friend can be exactly what you need to perk up a bad day, and can leave you feeling refreshed even at the worst of times. A manicurist will cleanse your hands, remove old polish, apply a new layer and soften your hands with a luxurious lotion. The same is done with a pedicure, except with your feet! Additionally, your nails will be filed and your cuticles pushed back to improve the look of your nails and hands.
Beauty certainly is not only skin deep, but sometimes something as simple as nail polish can help a woman feel at her best regardless of her circumstances. Having a mesothelioma cancer prognosis doesn’t have to define your life, and beauty doesn’t have to come from outward appearances. Sometimes the simplest beauty treatments can make the biggest difference.
