The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry…

I was originally planning on doing a galaxy manicure today, with the perfect base of IsaDora Black Galaxy on my nails and everything. But literally as I was on my way to start doing my nails, I had a run-in with a window that claimed two of my nails in a horrible window-closing accident. With my galaxy canvas brutally and considerately decimated, my plans were thwarted.

I couldn’t very well sit down and cry about the demise of my nails (after all, they do grow back), so I decided to make the best of what I had and do a fun and cute manicure instead. I started out by painting my nails with Hard Candy Sky, then I used a dotting tool and GOSH Silver to make some polka dots. I don’t think my nubs look too sad after all.

I know it’s not the end of the world to break a nail or two, but it’s a small annoyance that you can avoid by taking some precautions here and there. Read this excellent post by loodie loodie loodie, so maybe your nails don’t have to suffer the fate of being involuntary nubbinized like mine!

Hard Candy Sky

Today I’m testing out a brand I’ve never tried before, this is Hard Candy Sky, a sky blue polish with hidden blue shimmer.

Hard Candy is an American drug store brand found at Wal-Mart, and they have a lot of lovely colors. This brand also has a lot of affordable dupes of “it-colors” like Beetle (dupe for Orly Space Cadet and MAC Mean & Green), and Sky is also a dupe for Chanel’s Côte D’Azur hit polish Riva.

I have to admit, I didn’t fall for neither Riva nor Sky at first sight, but after seeing beautiful swatches on blogs and the MUA Nail Board, I realised that this definitely was a must-have! It looks like a nice baby blue creme most of the time, but when the right light hits it, you can see the lovely blue “hidden” shimmer that gives it that little extra.

The formula is surprisingly nice for a pastel, it’s a little bit on the thick side, but it never feels like I’m painting with glue. It does have some pastel problems like streaking and unevenness, but it levels out very well and is smooth, even and opaque in 3 coats.

Thanks for reading!
Love, S.
