Illamasqua Phallic

I have been drooling over Illamasqua Phallic for a long while (ok, get your head out of the gutter!), so when I got the chance to make an Illamasqua order for a swap, I had to add this to my shopping cart.

Phallic is a deep midnight blue with lots of shimmer or micro glitter, it almost looks glass flecked. Unfortunately, the shimmer doesn’t show up unless in very bright light, so I’m a little disappointed. It looks almost black in most lights, but when the right light hits it, I have to admit that the sparkles give it great depth and turns it into something more interesting.

These pics are a tiny bit misleading, as the shimmer shows up better in pictures than in real life for some reason.

The formula is just flawless, very pigmented and almost opaque in one coat. I recommend using two coats to get that rich, deep sparkle to show up better. Although this is a very pretty polish, it doesn’t quite make it into my ultimate favorites. But hey, they can’t all be in top 10!

Thanks for looking, have a nice day!

P.S. Don’t forget to check out my blog sale, there’s still lots of pretties left!

Psycho Zebra

When you have the most obnoxious yellow polish on, what do you do? Konad it, of course! I wanted to do black zebra stripes, but when I opened my drawer and saw Gosh Deep Purple there, I knew what I had to do. Dark purple zebra stripes over neon yellow? I love it!

This is Illamasqua Rare stamped with Gosh Deep Purple and Konad image plate m57. And by the way, these pictures show the true color of Illamasqua Rare. That’s what I get for not waiting for daylight to photograph my mani.

Deliciously 80′s, I dig it!

Illamasqua Rare

Now you’ll see something you’ve never seen on this blog before: A yellow polish! And not just any yellow either, but an eye-searingly neon yellow creme. I’m talking about Illamasqua Rare.

I have never wanted a yellow polish before, but a few weeks ago I just decided I need a neon yellow for pedis this summer! And this will look so damn cool peeking out of a pair of sandals. Of course I had to try it on my hands first, and I don’t even care if it gives me lobster hands from hell. OMG, it’s so awesome!

Of course, this didn’t want to play with my camera, so just imagine that these pics don’t lean green, just think YELLOW, ok?

The formula is nice and creamy, and just the perfect consistency for application. But it wouldn’t be a neon if it didn’t have a few quirks, would it? The first and second coat go on quite streaky and patchy, but it evens out nicely with the third. I bet it would look even nicer if I waited longer between each coat, but I don’t have the patience for that. Being a neon, this dries to a satin finish on its own, so if you want both retina-killing brightness and shiny glossiness, bring on the topcoat.

Do you have any neons lined up for summer? What will be your pedi favorite this year?

Thanks for stopping by!
Love, S.

Mattiste

Here’s Illamasqua Baptiste with a matte topcoat.

Still gorgeous.

Illamasqua Baptiste

Feast your eyes on the gorgeousness that is Illamasqua Baptiste! This deep royal purple shimmer is totally divine, it has that glowing from within quality that I love. I don’t really have a lot to say about this, just look at the pictures and let them speak for themselves. :)

Now, this is so much better formula-wise than the other Illamasqua I’ve tried, Baptiste is perfect! It’s not too thick and not too thin, it levels out automatically on the nail, and I didn’t have to do any cleanup at all! It’s like its programmed to fit your nail to a T. Now I understand the raving about the Illamasqua formula. I’ve used two coats here, which is just right in my book.

I guess all of you have heard about the TransDesign and OPI debacle lately. (If not, in short: TransDesign has raised their shipping prices outrageously and OPI are sueing TD among other online stores for selling their polishes unlicensed.) That means it’s harder for us Euro girls to purchase polishes from the US now. In light of this, I think Illamasqua is a great European alternative to brands like China Glaze and OPI which probably will be hard to find for us now. The only thing is that the price is much higher, that sucks… Also, if anyone has any tips on where to buy nailpolish online in Europe, please shout out! :D

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
Love, S.
