The ABCs: Z for Zoya & Zebra

Finally, here’s the last post in my ABC series! I kinda effed up a bit in my Variety Pack post, because I was originally going to post Sinful Colors Zeus for the letter Z, but somehow I threw it in with the random spam. So I had to figure out something else for today’s post, and I ended up with zebra stamping over a Zoya polish.

This is Zoya Cynthia, a dark teal creme stamped with zebra image from BM-223 and China Glaze Adore. I’ve used two coats of Cynthia, and it’s nice and smooth and easy to apply.

This concludes my ABC series, I hope you enjoyed it! I had fun doing this, but I really look forward to using whichever polish I fancy from now on. ;)

The ABCs: Y for Y U NO…

I don’t know about you, but I for one am really happy this ABC series is nearing the end! Because when I was looking at my spreadsheet desperately trying to find a suitable polish for today’s post, I was like:

So then I decided to just show you something random instead.

This mani started out with 3 coats of Bloom San Francisco, a gorgeous blue green shimmer I got in a swap with the lovely Kristy from The Polish Haven. San Francisco, also known as Bianca, is such a stunner, but it’s impossible (for me, at least) to capture it on film. Check out Steffels’ droolworthy pic of it, and you’ll understand why I just had to have it!

Frustrated by my lousy photography skills, I figured that my nails needed to be filed, and grabbed my trusty glass file and went to town. The resulting nubs cried out for something blingy, so I added a coat of Candeo Colors Plumage. Plumage has a sheer base with silver shimmer, green, turquoise and dark blue hex glitter, plus also seafoam square glitter. It looks awesome and is also nice and easy to apply.

Stay with me, we’re almost there now! Finally, I added a coat of Essie Matte About You, and here’s the result!

Whew! I hope you don’t mind me straying from the format, stay tuned for the conclusion of this series!

The ABCs: X for Xtravagance

I guess I didn’t think this ABC thing all the way through, because these last letters are proving really difficult to write about! Well, at least I get to use my imagination and creativity, and that’s not all bad.

Last week, my husband and I went to see “The Hunger Games”. I don’t think any nail polish enthusiasts could have missed hearing about this movie, China Glaze even made a collection based on it! (I have to admit I hadn’t even heard about either the movie or the books it’s based on before China Glaze released their collection, so for I kinda got the information the other way around.)

Anyway, I couldn’t help but notice the gorgeous manicure worn by Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket during The Reaping.

I’m positive I’m not the first and probably not the last who was inspired by the colorful citizens of Capitol, but I just loved this mani so much and I couldn’t wait to make my own version of it.

I decided to take it even more over the top, in true Capitol spirit, so I used Milani Purple Gleam as a base and Lynnderella Change sponged on the tips. A truly xtravagant and Effie-worthy manicure!

Purple Gleam was easy to apply, albeit very thick and glittery. But it’s a One Coat Glitter, so that’s expected. I had to use two coats to get it truly opaque, though. I’ve also used a buttload of topcoat, because these are thirsty glitters!

Are you often inspired by movies, books or other art when doing your nails?

The ABCs: W for Wild Peacock

Another franken saves the day!

I wasn’t quite happy with how sparse the glitters were in Spoiled Pet My Peacock, so I figured I’d franken something with it since it went so well the last time. I found a purple jelly I had frankened earlier, and in the glitter went! I don’t know if it’s my favorite polish in the world, but it is a lot more interesting than PMP on its own. Oh, and I called it Wild Peacock, you know, just because.

Not too shabby!

What do you do with polishes you’re not crazy about?

The ABCs: V for Variety Pack

I’m sorry that this post is so late, but when I got to V in the alphabet, I was faced with the same dilemma as earlier, I didn’t have an untried polish starting with V. So instead of doing a rerun of Zoya Valerie, I decided to do a random spam post, or a “Variety Pack” as it were. Since I had to wear and swatch a bunch of stuff for this post, it took a little while longer, but I hope it’s worth waiting for!

I won’t say much about these polishes, I’ll just let the pictures do most of the talking. Enjoy!

Essie Mademoiselle, 2 coats.

Essie Mademoiselle sponged with Orly Rock-It and Petites Pink Diamond. Heart strass from Claudia Cosmetics.

Essie Lapiz of Luxury, 2 coats.

H&M Lady Luck, 2-3 coats.

Sinful Colors Zeus, 2 coats.

Lynnderella The Telltale Heart, 1 coat over OPI Don’t Touch My Tutu!, 3 coats.

Thanks for looking!
